The American Bank Note Company Archives Auction PART II, October 17th, 18th & 19th, 2007

American Bank Note Company Archives, Part II in Bethel, CT

Since 1990, portions of the fabled American Bank Note Company's  archives have been sold at public auction, beginning with the four Christies sales of obsolete banknotes, worldwide banknotes and world wide stamps held from 1990 to 1991. On January 31st, February 1st and 2nd, 2007, H.R.Harmer successfully auctioned off the first section of the American Bank Note Company Archives from a recently released treasure trove of material that was new to the collecting community.  We are proud to present the second portion of this fabled printing company's archive to be auctioned this year of paper ephemera and unique printing plates including stocks and bonds, banknotes, stamps, vignettes and much more, directly from these storied archives.

25-26 Febr. 2006: our 36th big live auction & international bourse of old stocks & bonds

As always, we’ve prepared you a very broad selection of pretty, old and rare historic pieces. Overall, 1908 lots will be auctioned from 110 different countries. Start prices (which are also the reserve prices) vary from 10 euro up to 15.000 euro.

Highlights in the auction include top collections of:

    US gold mines
    French banking certificates
Aviation pieces from around the world (Kruppa collection part II)
American Express collection (lot 333) including the extremely rare founder share
Top collection of Spanish 18th century shares and bonds

With regard to of 18th century certificates, the selection is broad (64 pieces) and of the highest quality, for instance:

Bond issued by the “Staeten van Vlaenderen” in 1790 to finance the so-called Brabantsche Omwenteling (=uprising against Austrian empire Josef II)
The world’s oldest theatre share: “Theatre de Molière” from 1793
Bond signed by King William III of Great Britain, also stadhouder of Holland
A Dutch banking share from 1792 “Poll en Panheel” (near Roermond)
A Dutch war bond issued to the Bavarian Kurfürst Johann Wilhelm
The oldest Spanish scripophily piece: a mining share dated 1731
    A 1545 private loan from Savoie/Switzerland
An American tontine to finance the construction of the first NYSE-building (New York Stock Exchange Bourse), dated 1793

There is a lot more, but that I leave you to discover it. This website gives you indexes by lot number, country, theme to help your search. Logically, there are colour pictures of each lot. Bidding is easy: either by live attendance, either by submitting your bids in advance through post, fax or email (see bid form on this website).

Our Sunday bourse is promising to be as successful as our last one which welcomed some 250 visitors from 14 countries and had 135 meters of scripophily tables. It proved to be the biggest scripophily bourse in Europe, probably the world. People who would like to book a table, are recommended to do so swiftly.

Finally, I’d like to invite you to our Sunday Morning IBSS breakfast (free for IBSS members, others pay €20 and receive a free year of IBSS membership). The hot & cold breakfast includings a drawing (tombola) and several interesting speeches!

Enjoy browsing trough our catalogue and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Mario Boone
